  15. I may be late in posting this query, but I am new to this newsgroup.
  16. I pricked up my ears when I read the recent postings about problems with 
  17. getting the serial device to go using ppp0.
  18. I too have had no success in getting my A3000 on the 'net due to a 
  19. similar problem. I can dial into my provider using a terminal program 
  20. and log in quite successfully, however, any attempt to use AmiTCP with 
  21. any of the dialers etc give the result "ppp0 offline" "unit is currently 
  22. offline"

  24. In particular, I am trying to get Amosaic 1.4b to startup using the 
  25. supplied startup icon. 
  26. The modem dials out perfectly, the provider returns, the message 
  27. "PPP connection ready, starting AmiTCP" comes up as the 
  28. AmiTCP:bin/login.ip script ends.
  29. At this point, the dreaded message "ppp0 offline" pops up and everything 
  30. hangs.

  32. Was this the same as the previous correspondent's problem?
  33. If so, I would be greatful of any suggestions.

  35. (Not to be critical of my beloved Amiga, but I am forced to compare the 
  36. difficulties I have had trying to get online with it with the 
  37. exceptional ease I have experienced in setting up the IBM clone I am 
  38. currently loggen in with. I simply plugged in the modem, loaded the 
  39. software from disk, set the various defaults and it was away. It took no 
  40. more than 15 minutes.
  41. As for the A3000; So far it has been four months of trial and error, 
  42. (mostly error!) downloading various bit and pieces of software, editing 
  43. a variety of script files, setting up all sorts of devices etc and it 
  44. still won't work!! It is very frustrating)  (<:3|)
